Since our humble beginnings in 1974, Comvita has been driven by strong ethical values. As beekeepers, sustainability has always been deeply ingrained in our DNA. Even before climate change became a global concern, we recognised the vital importance of working in harmony with nature.

Our core belief is that healing power can found in the natural ecosystems that sustain us. For nearly 50 years, we have embraced this philosophy, nurturing our relationship with the environment. This is a momentous milestone for Comvita as we proudly announce our joining of a global community of purpose-driven businesses - B Corp.

What is B Corp?

B Corp Certification is a designation that a business is meeting high standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency on factors from employee benefits and charitable giving to supply chain practices and input materials achieving a B impact score of 80 or above. Comvita undertook this exercise for both our New Zealand and international operations.

This achievement reflects our determination to leave the world in a better place as captured in our market leading Harmony Plan. Certified B Corporations are leaders in the global movement for an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economy. Comvita joins a global community of like-minded companies that strive to balance profit with purpose, seeking to use business as a force for good.

  • What does it take to become a B Corp?

    Companies must meet rigorous criteria set out by the B Lab organisation, such as committing to reduced emissions, increased stakeholder accountability, and fair labor practices. There are also minimum performance requirements in areas such as governance and workers’ rights that need to be met in order for a company to be certified. B Lab ensures that companies are compliant with their certification through an independent third-party assessment. This involves looking at the company’s policies and procedures as well as surveys of employees and customers in order to ensure they are living up to the high standards expected by the B Corp community.

  • Our Commitment to Action and Impact

    B Corp certification marks a significant milestone in our journey toward creating a positive impact on both society and the environment, reaffirming our position as a global leader in responsible and sustainable practices. We are the largest private sector manager of native forests in New Zealand and under our Harmony Plan have planted 6.8 million native trees on nearly 6,000 hectares of marginal land to help restore native forests and biodiversity balance. We have been caring for bees since 1974 and actively working to protect bees, rescuing over 40 million bees this year and aiming for 100 million annually by 2025. The plan also sets a target for Comvita to be carbon neutral by 2025 and net carbon positive by 2030.
